Ingredients

  • 1 kg beef stew meat, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 200 ml ketjap manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • 500 ml beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and garlic, sauté until translucent.
  3. Add the beef cubes and brown on all sides.
  4. Stir in the ketjap manis, beef broth, brown sugar, ground ginger, and ground coriander.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover.
  6. Let it simmer for about 2-3 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

  • For a thicker sauce, remove the lid during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
